When do statements open, when do they get paid?

Set the terms the way you'd say them to a contractor. The planner shows the next three cycles. It's the same preview you get inside Handl when you set a contractor's pay terms.

Your pay terms

Example dates

0 to 90. Example: 7.

Handl's default is 1.

Only used to work out today, for the Pay from default.

No pay date before this day.

Next three cycles

Week ends Sunday. Statement Monday. Submit by Sunday. Paid the following Monday.

Next three pay cycles: work period, statement opens, submit by and pay date

Optional. We’ll send the numbers above and the contractor pay terms template. A couple of short follow-up emails from Darren come after that, and every one has an unsubscribe link.

How this is worked out

Paid N days after the weekly statement. The work week ends on the day you pick. The statement is raised on the first matching weekday after that (never the same day), moved to the next business day if it lands on a weekend and you leave that on. The pay date is the statement day plus N days. The statement opens the day it is raised.

Weekly and fortnightly.Pay on the pay day you pick, for the 7 or 14 days ending the day before. A fortnightly cycle starts at the first pay day on or after Pay from. The statement opens the number of days before pay that you set (Handl’s default is 3).

Monthly. Pay on the day of the month you pick (1 to 28), for the previous calendar month.

Submit by= the pay date minus the days you set (Handl’s default is 1), and never earlier than the day the statement opens.

Worked example: week ends Sunday, statement Monday, paid 7 days later. Week ending Sun 1 Nov, statement Mon 2 Nov, paid Mon 16 Nov is the 14-day version of the same cycle.

Dates are calendar days. Time zone only decides what “today” is when it picks the Pay from default. Pay-run dates follow Handl’s own rules; where Handl and this page ever differ, Handl is right.

Where Handl comes in

This is the same preview you get when you set a contractor's pay terms in Handl. Then it just happens.

Prefer a spreadsheet?

Put the terms on one page and send it to your contractors before the next statement. The free template is a Word file, fill in the brackets.

See it on your own projects.

Handl turns logged hours and costs into invoices and a live margin, so you are not rebuilding this in a spreadsheet every time.

Not accounting advice. This is an estimate worked out from the numbers you type in, nothing more.
